Introduction to Accessible Germany

Today the general public sometimes appears to exist in a world of “entertain me please” as though we are unable to think for ourselves. However, this article is solely intended as an opinion or impression of what we have seen and experienced during our travels to Germany.

Germany has invested heavily in the accessibility sector of its economy. It has chosen to market services to the disability sectors under the umbrella of “barrier-free” access. Whilst we continued to embrace the opinion that more often than not, access remains an individualized perception with all its challenges and experiential differences, we can however, applaud Germany for the accessible touristic touch point services it continues to offer in most of it major cities.

Recently Germany celebrated the landmark anniversary of the famous Berlin Wall demised. Germany is awash with Unesco world heritage sites, rich in history, art, culture and castles in abundance. Prior to our initial visit we decided to approach this destination with no preconceived notion as to it’s complex history and world perception. As a result I/we were and continue to be pleasantly surprised as to Germany’s recognition, public redress of “human stains” from their past governance, (transparency focused)present-day democracy, and their unwavering drive towards future innovative space and automobile developments.

Over the past 4-6 years our travels to Germany have revealed a treasure trove of accessible facts which would be of significant benefit to any disabled or slow-walking traveler.

We can confidently concluded that Germany is a mecca for accessible services and a boon for any shopping enthusiasts; from outlet shopping to upscale luxury items. Foodies, we have decided not to mention the Thuringian sausage or any world famous German beer. If you haven’t tasted or consumed either, thats a shame; that would be like traveling to Germany without participating in a regional cruising in Koblenz, visiting the ethnic regions of Berlin, the charm of Cologne, Munich’s castles, (Black Forest) Bavarian enchanted countrysides and the welcome touristic experience of the sheer interconnectivity of train travel across the country.
